Current Employee - Engagement Manager  in  Arlington, VA
Current Employee - Engagement Manager in Arlington, VA

I have been working at CEB full-time for less than a year

Pros

People - everyone in my group is smart, nice, works hard, and engaged
Product - both the actual products we work with and the research that backs them up
Opportunity to grow - clear, fair objectives and a clear path to promotion.
Variety - lots of different aspects to the job, client relationships, project management, new product development, sales, etc... Keeps you on your toes and interested
Learning - the ability to dig into the research done in the main part of the company is great. I've learned so much about other industries and trends.
Atmosphere - I'm at the HQ building, which is a great space, very pleasant facilities
Benefits - these are great and useful

Cons

High focus on existing business lines/sales (can sometimes impede the product side)
Lots of competition, since everyone is smart and capable (harder to stand out)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Aim to expand the consulting side of the business (steadily - and keep the current philosophy behind how we consult vs how the others do it).

I worked at CEB full-time for more than a year

    Pros

the product is very insightful, and you will work with some of the smartest people (research not sales)-- so there is an opportunity to learn alot
people that are part of the click - even if they arent performing stay for a while- so good tenured people
    building is metro accessible
classroom training is good but isnt really relevant to the job- and the managers that do on the job training are not helpful or supportive

    Cons

    expensive to park in building
very clicky caddy culture- people talk alot behind each others backs- not very supportive team- in fact the only thing that resembles a team is that you sell the same product-- people are out to get each other
managers are not supportive- very little help with learning- they treat you like you are 5
it takes ALOT longer to get promoted than they say... ALOT longer-- be prepared to wait
tedious work- same thing every day- alot of COLD calling- they count dials and post them up
culture is terrible- you dont even get to practice closing deals until you are there for what seems like forever -- even if you have been in a position where you have closed before
    recruiting lies about future path

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

be more honest in interview about what to expect. set realistic goals with employees- dont butter them up to what they want to hear- dont be so clicky

    I worked at CEB full-time

    Pros

Younger culture, great experience for people with less than five years of experience, opportunities to talk to and work with the c-level, lots of community involvement.

    Cons

Managed by hearsay, conformist culture, groupthink, not managed by performance but by likeability, constantly changing standards based on your manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decide what a position should look like and the goals that position should achieve, and then measure against it.
