Pros

Very smart people; can be lucrative if you are in the right position.

Cons

Management focuses only on the "bottom dollar" - not the people that help them get there. You are quickly discarded if you no longer fit into their plans. They say one thing but then do another.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on the stellar people you hire - but be honest with them about what their job entails.

I worked at CEB as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

As the company prides itself on, CEB really does have the perfect mix of people who are both smart, and nice, which is a combination you don't normally find everywhere. The managers are genuinely interested in the intern's experience over the summer and are looking to help develop their professional careers. The internship program is extremely structured with providing a mentor as well as a peer-coach to every intern to help shape their career development. The senior management also took the time to get to know the interns, which is extremely rare for a company of this size.

    Cons

The one downside is that the company structure is extremely difficult to understand, but after working at the company for some time it is easier to grasp and explain.

This was a great company to work for

    Pros

CEB is loaded with extremely bright and successful people and - in many cases - it is an extremely well run machine. It is a unique culture where you can count on having many people vested in your success. The products and research they put out are world class. There are many "lifers" there - if you find that it is a good cultural fit for you, you're likely to stay a long, long time. Senior leadership is almost always approachable. If you want to make moves from one type of career in CEB to another, leaders are almost always willing to try to facilitate that. If you can do well at CEB, you will likely do well anywhere.

    Cons

The downside to that unique culture is that it spurs a bit of a love/hate relationship - either you like it or you don't. If you prefer a west-coast business culture, you might like their west coast office, but you might struggle at HQ. Either as a product of being a research organization or as a product of having so many lifers, the speed of thought around innovating the business is on the slow side. Things tend to be VERY process oriented. That process makes things run well, bu slows things way down and doesn't allow for a lot of outside the box thinking. Oddly, CEB tends to be a little slow at adopting its own best practices. The business growth as a whole - while quite healthy - is not fast. In many cases the roles and responsibilities are rather finite. You are either in research, in sales or in advisory and you're taking on one of 2-3 types of roles. Note that I still rate CEB highly - much of the cons are rather nuanced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look further out on the horizon - innovate faster and more often.
