I worked at CEB full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Very dynamic environment. Great exposure. Global footprint. Ability to attract top-tier talent. Strong financials. Great location.

Cons

Who you know will get you farther than what you know. Promotions are not 100% merit based. Work life balance leaves alot to be desired. 1 year turnover rate > 50% and a 2 year turnover rate > 75%.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Inability to retain top level talent comes with a price that CEB keeps paying, and paying, and paying.

    I have been working at CEB full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    * CEB has a fun environment, especially in revenue.

    * Having CEB on your resume for at least a year looks great when you interview elsewhere. CEB has the reputation for hiring great people and working them to the bone. So when hiring companies see that you were able to hold on for dear life, they are always impressed.

    * This is a very exciting time for CEB, business wise. The company is growing and the re-branding has really made CEB's brand shine.

    Cons

    * Simply put, CEB does not pay well. With the exception of those with an incentive plan (sales/account management) CEB severely underpays their staff, yet expects a lot from them. Companies know this and know that CEB hires great people, so they are always poaching to hire.

    * At CEB, people who crush their numbers are untouchable... They can get away with murder, which oftentimes makes for a very hostile and unethical working environment. The sad thing is that this is no secret, not even to management.

    * CEB has a highly political culture. If you can put up with crazy/absurd internal politics, then you'll do just fine here.

    * Professionalism is NOT a word that describes CEB.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    * Care about your people. Implement the "best practices" you preach/sell (especially from CEB HR).

    * TRAIN YOUR MANAGERS, even (or especially) the tenured ones. CEB does offer management training but I only took them because, as a first-time manager, I wanted to. They were not mandatory.

    * Hitting sales goals should not come at the expense of morals and work ethic. Everyone knows the shady things that happen in revenue... It looks so bad when senior management pretends nothing is happening or even worse when it involves senior management, as it usually does.

    Pros

    Very smart people; can be lucrative if you are in the right position.

    Cons

    Management focuses only on the "bottom dollar" - not the people that help them get there. You are quickly discarded if you no longer fit into their plans. They say one thing but then do another.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Focus on the stellar people you hire - but be honest with them about what their job entails.
