I worked at CGG

Pros

Has a good working environment, good benefits package (dental, medical, etc.), the salary was pretty good, laid back office environment

Cons

Bad management, it is a bit overstaffed
Actually, it's not a bad place to work, I think I had a great experience with this company.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at CGG full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

It covers a broad area of geophysical service, from acquisition, processing, inversion, data library, to manufacturing equipment, et al. A good place to learn and get exposure.

    Cons

Every few years it buys another company. Integration is a challenge. The desired/anticipated synergy is not easy to achieve.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop buying more companies.

I have been working at CGG as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The company hires employees with no background about geophysics. Therefore, the company can be a good starting company for those who want to switch to geophysics from an unrelated discipline.

    Cons

There is no morality nor sense of appreciation in this company. Anybody with shear years of sincere service contribution is on the brink of laying off. Therefore, you might not receive any support from your coworkers. I was an intern there. I had several publication for the company. But, I did not receive any praise from the company even a simple thank you letter. Other friends of mine went through the same experience. I am so remorseful for wasting my precious time there.
