Bottom Line More Important Than Employees

I worked at CGI Group

Pros

Flexible work schedules, arrival times, etc
Laid-back atmosphere
Great clients
New laptops every couple years (although I heard recently that this has changed...what a surprise)

Cons

Unfair performance assessments
Raises not tied to performance but only to bottom line
Younger employees are snobbish but yet make no money and don't even realize it!

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer your employees more incentives and they would be more willing to stay with the company. You cannot overwork your employees and commit them to tight deadlines and think that they will stay with the company for years on out with nothing to show for it.

    I have been working at CGI Group

    Pros

    Good people. Good location. Cafeteria food is good. I have the feeling that CGI is trying to do things the right way, they just can't get their act together to do so.

    Cons

    If you are on the wrong project, you will not experience the work/life balance that everyone brags about and they cram down your throats in interviews. The facility is OK at best. Don't expect anything to work unless you have checked yourself. If you get frustrated by coworkers squeaking by doing nothing while you are working hard, I'd recommend against working here.

    Spend the money to give your employees the right tools to work with.

    As long as the employee tows the company line without question, the company will offer support.

    Pros

    Pay is pretty good, but that depends on the contract.
    It is possible to transfer from one location to another if you want to move somewhere else.
    If contracts are canceled, they will try to find somewhere else to put you.

    Cons

    Money is their bottom line. If the contract or money is at risk, in any way, the employee gets pushed aside. I have not experienced the flexibility in schedules that other people have. This obviously depends on the contract.
    The company offers no support for employees who have suffered tragedies in their personal lives, especially if the government client also does not offer support. Whatever the clent wants, the client gets even if this hurts the employee.
    The company will not be supportive the employee wants to file a complaint against the client.
    Paid time off (pto) and sick leave are the same.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Know your employees better. If they need help, please be more supportive. Don't listen to gossip and take the time to learn what is truly going on at the job location before passing jusgment on anyone. Be more flexible in time off for the employees, even if the client is not.
