I have been working at CGI

Pros

Very good people in most cases. Traveling is fun for the first 2 years. Flexible in work locations. Health and dental benefits are good just like most companies out there. Company matches stock options up to a certain percentage. Salary is only good out of college.

Cons

Salary reviews are worthless since you will only get the minimum which is very embarrassing to even talk about. Bonus are very rare and if you ever get one its not worth mentioning. Hard work is only rewarded in words. Management needs to fight more for the well being of there employees. Traveling becomes a pain.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to fulfill there promises. Reward hard work with better bonus's and salaries.

I worked at CGI full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Well organized. Great employee benefits. Education offerings. Caring managers. Advancement opportunity. Committed to the community with charity drives. Employees are shareholders in the company.

    Cons

Too officious. Paper work drowns employees. Does not truly follow PMI methodology as processes are rushed leading to short circuits and costly mistakes. Too much emphasis on billing employee time that people feel stretched over too many projects and cannot commit to any one. Far too many meetings such that project managers have a hard time getting all team members together at one time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decrease the number of meetings, especially stratus meetings. Status can be gathered in far more effective ways such as email or one-on-one check ins. People in status meetings are concentrating on what they will say when their time comes or what they have to do when they go back to their desks. They are not listening to the other people's reports. If a one hour status meeting occurs once a week and involves 10 people who take 5 minutes each to deliver their status, 10 hours of productive time is taken up. If those same people take five minutes to send the PM a status report, 50 minutes are taken up. What PM would not want to get back nine hours of extra time each week. When people are assigned to a team there must be dedicated time when they work exclusively on the project and are not pulled off to eek out 15 minuses of billable time. As it is, project managers can rarely get the entire team together at one time because one or more members are working on some other project..
