I have been working at CGI

Pros

multiple locations
reasonable salary
Benefits are reasonable for consulting.
Will let you work flexible hours.
US staff is isolated from Montreal

Cons

It depends on the project you are on, some are great, some are just mismanaged, poor management is tolerated.
Getting promoted is based on being on the right project, if they are growing you can get promoted.
too many people are promoted and then can't produce, need to have a review structure in place to remove them or demote them.
Montreal Management, while successful, do not understand how to make the US consulting more successful
CGI does not have strong C-level access at the companies they work for, so they tend to get more technical and minor consulting gigs, unlike Accenture or IBM.
Strong outsourcing focus, yet they are very weak in the field.
If you are not on a project, you have two weeks to find a new role, otherwise you are laid off. Dumb to say the least.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of people who can't produce at their level. maybe get rid of the bottom 2% every year.

I have been working at CGI

    Pros

Flexibility in assignments and workplace location. A lot of different domains one can work in.

    Cons

Little or no work life balance as with almost all consulting firms. The travel can also get to you after a while. So, know that you may travel up to 100 percent for some assignments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve employee retirement options and benefits. Make available better placement options for those consultants who cannot be deployed internally.

An up and coming IT consulting firm looking to outpace the typical incumbents such as Accenture.

I have been working at CGI

    Pros

It is a rising IT Consulting firm looking to compete against the big boys. This means more immediate career opportunity than working for firms like Accenture or Booz Allen but it also means the culture suffers a bit from an inferiority complex. If you're looking to grow your career quickly at a reputable firm then CGI might be the right choice.

    Cons

The cost cutting culture affects day to day life by sucking some of the fun out of the environment. When compared to non-consulting examples (Google, Microsoft, etc) thing seem drab and boring. It wouldn't hurt to spend a few dollars here and there making the overall day-to-day office life a bit more enjoyable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Loosen up a bit!
