Work from home days leave people unavailable lack of assigned work for new hires. Lack of direction on some projects it varies from project to project. Lack of meaningful job training.

I worked at CGI full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

CGI is committed to earning and retaining the business of high value customers. This generally results in their providing the highest quality staff for those projects that earn the most revenue and ensure that the company maintains a good global reputation.

Pay at CGI is competitive and the company provides good online technology tools for it's consultants to work with.

HR and payroll run efficiently and effectively and problems are resolved expeditiously.

Projects that are struggling or in trouble get lots of help.

    Cons

If you are on a project that is struggling, a great deal of help can be forthcoming but disjointed approaches and a lack of coordination can create confusion with the client as well as CGI project staff.

During the 3 years that I worked for CGI, I was on one large project. There were three project managers on that project (at least in the beginning) and they were all trying to lead without a clear difference between their roles and functions. This frequently led to chaos and never seemed to be addressed by a functioning oversight process.

Self-directed career management is fine. However, a distinguishing characteristic of the culture is that, in order to progress and do well, you need a sponsor. There are no clear-cut avenues to promotion and pay-increases that are based on performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide continuous and ongoing project oversight based on PMBOK best practices. Be prepared to challenge and/or replace project management staff based on the results of considered analysis.

    Pros

Great Salary, Work From Home, Great Stock Ownership Benefit, Annual Bonus, Social Club (if you ant to join), Great for COLLEGE HIRES

    Cons

Not a lot of diversity (African American's) this leads to being polarized in a majority white environment, Not a good place for mid-level professional of any race, not many African Americans in management outside of human resources, terrible health insurance not family friendly insurance will not pay till you reach $6000/$7000 deductible must setup Health Savings Account no copayments in plans this has the net effect of reducing your salary
