Opportunity to excel without restrictions. No real barriers to extend beyond one's confort level

Cons

It is a consulting company. Each hour needs to be accounted for. Overhead billing is not acceptable

    Pros

    In general, employees are willing to help you and answer any questions you might have. Flexible work schedule, 100% employee-owned, most ethical company. Good upper management communication via blogs/newsletters/CEO 'tweets'.

    Cons

    HR is clueless, overworked, and underpaid. Relocation packages are terrible. Hard to work on cross-business group projects due to financials, even though you might have the exact skill set required. Energy Group is a conglomeration of 4 companies formed in 2007. Those 4 companies are trying to meld together and currently don't work well together. Standards and procedures for work processes are a complete and utter mess. Zero career guidance/support offered. Management closed a profitable group and laid off employees that were over100% billable for the year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Senior level management is engaged and communicates more than the mid-level management. Hearing from the senior level management is great and all, but it means more coming from someone you've actually met and interact with a few times a year.

    Standardize salary and bonuses and get rid of decision makers personal biases.

    Pros

    Access to experts and willingness of others to share knowledge. Interesting projects with lots of challenging work.

    Cons

    Reviews, bonuses and other salary increases not distributed fairly, very biased. My experience with the way this is handled is shameful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Standardize salary and bonuses to eliminate personal biases and influence. Have independent committees decide the increases and bonuses based on real standards that matter. Percent of projects delivered on time, on budget, meeting performance/profitability metrics, staff performance, leadership skills, client feedback, new work secured. This is where and how the effectiveness of the manager can be measured. NOT on how certain people feel or don't feel about the person these gossipy evaluation sessions are shameful and unethical.
