Pros

There is a buddy system so that when you start there is someone to teach you the ropes. Got lucky with mine. He was a great mentor and learned a lot from him. The people in the office are nice and everybody is willing to help and teach you if you are willing to learn.

Cons

there wasn't a clear defined way for employees to address their complaint about management. The office I was in had a bad office manager everyone had an issue with but no one was able to do anything about it. This was mainly due to there was no other point of contact in the office than this office manager.

Advice to Management

Establish distribution of power with in the office so that employees don't feel like their backs are against the wall.

    Pros

    I enjoyed the open management, people, and corporate culture, webinars, work sharing across offices, work, great PTO accrual, working remotely, online training opportunities, and flexible schedule. Senior management was very transparent and open to interaction with employees across the firm. Love that it was employee-owned, and excited for the overall company future. They have the potential to attract a lot of talent and great work!

    Cons

    As reviewers here and other sites have mentioned, the Spartanburg office is very political with a micromanagement culture. The older mindset in Spartanburg does not allow for very many career advancement opportunities, especially for minorities and women. The atmosphere was full of blame, backbiting, and documentation, and everyone works in silos within silos with very little project communication. There were also very little paid training opportunities for direct engineering staff...not treated much differently from contract workers.

    Advice to Management

    Align incentives to expected results. Individual rewards and recognition, along with underperforming performance review quotas, did not seem to lend itself to a collaborative team success environment . You're a target unless you're protected -- not representative of your true work. It did not appear that first level or other local managers received incentives or bonuses for helping minorities succeed or get promoted in the highly political environment in Spartanburg.

    Pros

    Mostly pleasant people to work with. Flexible scheduling.

    Cons

    Strong corporate culture, meaning cost and politics are the main considerations in eLearning decisions. There is a policy of underpaying eLearning contractors. No experience with collaborative work environments.
