    I worked at CHOC Children's as a contractor

    Pros

    The staff is amazing. The volunteers are incredibly helpful. The new building is so beautiful. The care is competent. It's a great place to work or volunteer. If pediatrics is your thing, then this is the place for you.

    Cons

    Can get confused with St. Joseph Hospital. They are known for only hiring the best of the best because they are magnet. It is very competitive.

    I have been working at CHOC Children's as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

    The hospital has excellent doctors, nurses and other clinicians and is a very good place for children to be treated.

    Cons

    If you are an HR professional and are considering a job at CHOC, you need to know that recently there has been a mass exodus of HR Directors and senior staff members due to the poor leadership at the top. The environment is very negative and management is always looking at who to blame rather than figuring out a solution. The recruitment dept within HR cares more about paperwork than they do candidates and the hiring managers they serve. There are policies in place that are very rigid that don't make sense from a customer service standpoint. As a recruiter, you have to spend so much time processing paperwork that you barely have time to recruit. The management is not open to new ideas or out of the box thinking either. When you walk in the door in the morning you will barely get a "hello" from anyone because people are so unhappy they don't bother with pleasantries anymore.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Learn a new style of management that supports your staff rather than stifles them. Re-think some of your outdated policies and procedures that are bogging down your staff. Do an investigation to find out why so many directors, managers and staff in HR are leaving.
