    Pros

most of the people that work in the office are kind people, the people you deal with out in the field very and arent always the nicest.

    Cons

one bad thing about being a CHP officer is having to deal with constant negative in the world, but there are always those times when you are able to help someone and that makes it all worth it

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

as an officer for the CHP you take on a management role while out on patrol, but as far as leadership goes upper management is pretty good.

Former Employee - Public Safety Dispatcher  in  Los Angeles, CA
Former Employee - Public Safety Dispatcher in Los Angeles, CA

    Pros

The work is rather simple and routine once you learn the materials. Training is a year long and there are 2 phases. LOTS of overtime opportunities at great pay!

    Cons

It's a bureaucracy. Everything is chain of command and everyone wants to cover their own a**. Make sure that everything you do is within the "umbrella" what the CHP will protect or accept liability for. If you do any act outside of that umbrella, good luck! You're on your own. Another downside is that it's for 12 hour workdays. Get ready to get a gym membership or you'll increase your belt size by 200% in no time!
