CIBER Consultant in Greenwood Village, CO:   (Past Employee - 2008)

Pros

Consulting companies provide the opportunity to be exposed to many types of industry and many levels of management. CIBER fosters this variety and encourages the consultant to expand their skill set through client interaction whenever it is feasible on a project. If a consultant has skill in one product or subject area, it is possible to request learning new products or subject areas as projects allow. Bench time allows the consultant to utilize the CIBER knowledge network to also learn new skills.

Cons

Travel is typically 100%, with the normal 'bench' time between projects. If you do not like to travel this is not the type of occupation you should pursue. When a department or work group is not at a project site, communication can become infrequent. Mangers sometimes 'forget about you' unless you are on a billable project and they are physically with you on the assignment.

Advice to Senior Management

Employee development during 'bench' time needs to be structured and monitored as part of the consultant's development plan on a yearly basis. Benefit structure is a bit "light" on health care coverage..
