Pros
The performance bonuses are substantial if you hit yr targets.
Cons
Employees are made to be competitive by being positioned to compete against one another. This creates a hostile atmosphere that does not encourage cooperation. Base salaries tend to be low; the supporting argument for this is that performance bonuses will make up for it (if you hit yr targets).
Advice to Senior Management
Encourage cooperation by allowing profits to be shared more evenly among departments/divisions/desks/employees.
