    I have been working at COM DEV International

    Pros

    - No body is watching you
    - If you live in Cambridge, it's a close drive
    - Some really good people

    Cons

    - It's a social game and in order to get any where you have to be very good at sucking up to the guys on top
    - This place is ran by a boys club
    - Do not expect any appreciation....all upper management is just looking for the proper paper work in order to get their own bonuses. They are only in it for themselves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Fire yourselves and hire experienced managers who will respect their employees and not manage the companies off personal greed.

    I have been working at COM DEV International

    Pros

    * I work for a good manager
    * I've been able to progress through the ranks fairly quickly
    * Department supports a good work-life balance with many remoting options
    * Interesting work

    Cons

    * Concerns that are raised to management are dismissed without action. This includes concerns about ergonomics, efficiencies, structure
    * Very political - The landscape is like a political minefield. You have to be careful what you say to who because that information may be used against someone later. There are decisions that make no sense, but are made for political reasons (we have departments that exist because of political reasons)
    * Information is not shared, this is everything from important communications, the structure of the company (can't even tell who is someone's manager without asking them)
    * Information is disorganized, it's all over the place, there's no plan for handling information and everyone is pretty much allowed to do their own thing
    * People who do not have skills to do particular jobs are in fact doing these jobs, and getting promoted. they are then holding back progress in these areas because they dogmatically stick to the way they were doing things (even though anyone with skill would just laugh at them)
    * Management has very little respect for employees. This is iconified by the current president of COM DEV International Products. He has been known to make subversive comments to get the things he wants.
    * The easiest way to get a raise/promotion is to say you're leaving, or kiss a lot of management @$$
    * Salary review and Performance Appraisal is a joke because there is no transparency and what HR says about both seems to change every year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Cut through all the political non-sense.

    Restructure the support departments from the top-down. Finance, HR, and other supporting departments should be moved out of CDIP since they are also supporting the other divisions. Move them into the "cloud" so they can be accounted for properly.

    Hire a CIO. The information systems at COM DEV are limited by many factors, but the main one is a lack of vision. We have divisions and departments buying software without understanding the true costs of running such systems. The costs of infrastructure, integration and support.
