COM DEV Employee Review
COM DEV – “I loved the great projects but hated the way that the company treated their employees as fodder.”
Pros
Interesting projects make the days work satisfying. I have met a lot of great people there as well as gained some valuable experience.
Cons
The general consensus is that all work has to be three times. The first time the work is done it is rejected because you were not given enough information. The second time it was rejected because you are given the wrong information. The third time it passes, but now it can start into the revision process.
Nothing is done quickly at COM DEV. Everything must be passed by endless reviews that are conducted by reviewers that wait until the job is almost complete before even get involved in the project ( They should be involved as the project develops).
Several times I was just treated as fodder in the company. Being removed from a project just because that department wanted to remove overhead regardless of the fact that you are the only person with that expertise on the project. Then the department would raid that expertise from another department who would be doing the work on overtime.
I offered many times to put the company in touch with specialists who could work with them to help their processes but it always fell on deaf ears.
Advice to Senior Management
Develop teams that are fully engaged in projects. In this way your reviewing process becomes a just a sign off or a safety net for minor errors, not a complete overhaul of the work that has happened up to that point. Revise your processes for synergy not roadblocks.
Do your research up front to get the correct information so that you only do the job once.
The people that need to leave are the people who are not changing with the times not the employees that want to help the company get better.
