I worked at CSX full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Good pay for the what you do. Great benefits for you and your family. A good bunch of people to work WITH.

Cons

on call 24/7, you really cant make plans. hard to get time off. Management hiding in the bushes watching you, waiting for you to do something wrong so they can charge/fire you

Advice to ManagementAdvice

better to point out what an employee is doing wrong & help him/her correct the behavior rather than let them keep screwing up so you can bring multiple charges agaist them. Get rid of the US vs. Them mentality

    Pros

    Decent Pay
    Good Bonus
    Good work life balance
    Continually focused on improvement of company as a whole and on employee satisfaction

    Cons

    The focus on improvement is in the early stages, so there's lots of work to be done.
    Still lots of mainframe focus.
    Too many project managers.
    Too many contract developers. Would probably be better off replacing some with loyal internal employees who know the business which would also reduce the need for so many project managers/app consultants.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the great work! Continue to focus on process improvement and expanding the use of modern technology to improve the safety and efficiency of rail transportation.
