Pros

it was very good experince on the corporate america. I definately learned alot about the intermodal field. There is also alot of room for upward mobility.

Cons

well working at csx was very corporate, after all it is a fortune 500 company. Management was really up tight also.

Advice to Management

if i were to give some advice it would be to loosen up a little bit. Employees will work better if your not always checking up on them.

    Pros

Compensation, Health care, and and retirement are all good. The work is not very phyisically demanding and the job itself is usually exciting and different every day.

    Cons

No set schedule make's it very hard to plan even a day ahead of time though that isn't as much CSX's fault as it is the nature of the industry. Most management employee's are hired out of college and have no understanding of what it actually takes to make things happen. They have no railroad experiance and they are taught to feel superior to craft employees. They try to force un-realistic policies and practices into place that hurt production, customer, and employee satisfaction. Employees are required to carry 5+ rule books at all times and penalties for even minor diviations from the book* are blown completely out of proportion. Rules are subject to interpritation and what is acceptable to one manager may not be to the next so your never comfortable with what your doing and spend more time worried about wether or not a manager is watching you with night vision than about doing your job and staying alive. They preach safety, accountability, and wellness, but only if it dosn't actually require them to do anything or spend a couple of dollars. * Employees have recieved time off for walking to fast, standing with their hands in their pockets, not saying over or out on the radio, taking safety glasses off momentarly because they had fogged up, and many many other petty violations.

    Advice to Management

Get back in touch with your workforce and quit trying to fire them for not being safety robots. Make employees feel appreciated for the job they do instead of trying to make them feel that they owe you their first born or vital organs for the great and important privilage of working for you. Promote managers through the ranks to get people that know what is going on instead of college idiots that don't actually know anything about the industry.

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

One of the largest companies in Jax and a leader in the railroad transportation industry. Good benefits such as railroad retirement

    Cons

Male dominanted company with virtually no women in senior leadership roles. Techinally sound but in need of growth in that area

    Advice to Management

Improve the systems that the company uses and promote a more equal balance of men to women ratio for management positions.
