Pros

Has average benefits & vacation policies, but have scaled back in recent years resulting in more tenured employees getting fewer vacation days - a real sore spot for those former Caremark employees unaccustomed to retail store-like benefits. A lot of support for charitable activities. Security in working for a Fortune 20 company. Pockets of real talent and great people.

Cons

Bringing together several companies has created severe culture challenges that have not been worked out. Merger of equals with CVS and Caremark was not as advertised - it was an acquisition in which CVS employees were rewarded and most senior level Caremark employees were let go (albeit some with attractive packages). Very hierarchical in which communication flow is tightly managed resulting in lower level employees feeling in the dark and not empowered to make decisions. Significant pockets of cronyism that rewards in-network people making poor business decisions while those not in the network shoulder the blame. Talent management is virtually non-existent - those politically savvy can do well. Those that do well but aren't will get frustrated.

Advice to Management

Need to address the severe culture challenges that still persist years after the acquisition. Focus on the talent, not the politics and reward success & talent, not tenured CVS employees.

    Pros

    they let you take CVS where ever you go. I have moved to two different states and CVS has been along for the ride the whole way. it has been a steady job for me for the last two years.

    Cons

    They want so much done with as little people as possible. they barely give tech hours and when they do ....they end up cutting hours a few months later. they have no clue what really goes on in a pharmacy. they forget about the people that are on the front line. they only look at numbers not real life situations.

    Advice to Management

    promote from within more so that upper management are people that have stood on the front line and know how it feels to physically work in the pharmacy.

    Pros

    Great benefits package especially on prescriptions

    Cons

    Don't care about store management. Work like dogs. Get paid 45 hours usually work at least 5 to 10 hours more because of hours budget constraints

    Take care of your store managers
