I worked at Cabela's part-time (more than an year)

Pros

Great place to work. Training is way above most retail places. Customers that come in are in a good mood most of the time, the staff is relaxed and easy to get along with.

Cons

Management is bad at communication between the employees and them. They micro manage all the time and push the credit card way too much. They make that the initial thing on advancement and don't give people enough breaks or time off.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have better communication and to stop micro managing.

I have been working at Cabela's full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Plenty of jobs available if you don't plan on staying long and look at it as a stepping stone to better opportunities in a better place.

    Cons

The weather in Sidney is horrible. Too hot to go outside in the summer; too cold to go outside in the winter. The other two days are fine! Dirty; windy and smelly depending on the wind direction. There is no middle ground. If you've move from somewhere where there's water and trees, you won't be happy. If you think Cabela's is all about the outdoor life, think again. The corporate headquarters is in the middle of nowhere! There's absolutely nothing in Sidney. No amenities, not one great place to eat, no chains; you can't even get a Whopper within 40 miles. The company is making lots of money. That is their only concern. The management the use to be made up of hardcore outdoor people are gone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Move the corporate headquarters to attract and retain better talent.

Former Employee - Lead Warehouse Supervisor in Tulalip, WA
Former Employee - Lead Warehouse Supervisor in Tulalip, WA

I worked at Cabela's full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

3point5.com discount eligibility. Flexible work hours.

    Cons

All employees are severely underpaid. As a Lead Supervisor for the warehouse night shift the pay is $12.00 an hour, minimum wage is $9.04 in WA. The workload is extremely intense due to being grossly understaffed. Communication is non-existent between management to management and between management to employee. A team atmosphere was once preached but the turn over rate is so high that no one knows who they are working with or for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Cabelas in Tulalip, WA needs to be rebuilt from the top down. Although it is a new store, the miscommunication between management and lack of pay is killing this store. Cabela's is thought to be of a higher standard, but with the current policies, turnover rate, lack of AFFORDABLE benefits and lack of pay it attracts the wrong type of outfitter. An outfitter who does not care about the operation or their job. It all starts with the senior management. Your sales will only be so high for so long, and then the hammer will come down.
