    Pros

The engineering team is top-notch and, generally, the level of professionalism and competence for the mid-level managers is very high.

    Cons

They really didn't know what to do when the economy collapsed, and instead of asking the experts they'd hired to do their jobs, senior management decided they'd have to personally micromanage everything.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You hire smart people. Let them do their jobs.

    Pros

Interesting business model, with the real potential to make a difference in peoples' lives. Company was first to market in this space (but has sadly failed to capitalize on its lead). Some fun, normal people work there. Certain departments / managers are more "normal" than others, and thus are OK to work in / for.

    Cons

Senior management doesn't project leadership, and lacks focus and direction. Communication at all levels is abysmal. Not a very collaborative or collegial place to work; instead, fear and a pervasive "CYA" atmosphere rule the day. A middle management style best described as "toxic" is rewarded time and again, while the employees who do all the work are not recognized or respected. Work-life balance is paid lip service only. Low pay relative to similar positions at other companies (particularly in engineering dept.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe it's time to call in some people with actual experience taking companies to the next level, and more importantly, let those people do their jobs!
