I have been working at California College of the Arts part-time (more than an year)

Pros

As a student, working at CCA is as local and practical as it gets. Work-study positions are a great way for students to make money and also become more familiar with having a job. I'd say students who also work while they are in college are more likely to find jobs after they graduate, and working for CCA is a great place to start. The employers are usually fun and friendly, understanding of your schoolwork, and are often artists themselves.

Cons

As a student, I see many other work-study students sticking around CCA after they graduate. CCA is an excellent place to work as a student, but can be dangerous if you grow too comfortable and don't want to leave. Also, although work study has its advantages, it make be more beneficial to work outside of CCA while you are a student because otherwise your life may feel too centered around CCA - or even trapped at CCA. Working in the local community outside of the school can give you needed experience outside of CCA's bubble.

    Pros

Friendly co workers, students and a relatively relaxed and well planned event management team that makes working a on the team a pleasure.

    Cons

redundant and repetativ roles, some times quiet and not engagingdurning non peqk hours or weeks

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The head of student life is doing a great job and his assistants are very hard working based on the small size of the staff to student ratio.

I have been working at California College of the Arts

    Pros

If CCA comes a'callin' for your help -- to teach graphic design, writing, illustration, etc -- get ready for a bifurcated experience. The students are wonderful. But the pay is way low for the work and there is a caste system of "made" people vs "adjuncts."

    Cons

The place is run by painters and other fine arts types -- when was the last time someone needed a leader and said, hey, let's call a painter in! That's what we need! One of those really organized, strategic, forward-looking painters!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay people for the actual work they do. You know those adjuncts make it possible for you to stay in business. Pay them as such.
