I worked at California State University

Pros

I like worked work at the library because it was a good experience in having work freedom from strict supervisors.

Cons

There is no real budget, some of the supervisors there might even be laid off sometime soon, not reliable as a means of real work.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better scheduling techniques would be very effective, stronger management abilities as in communication, employee meetings, and directing the employees in working.

I worked at California State University

    Pros

--Enormous pride in serving the largest public university system in the country
--Interaction with energized students and brilliant faculty
--Established organization throughout the State of California
--Very good recognition in all market sectors: government, business, international

    Cons

    --Sudden layoffs, firings, "non-retentions"
--Constant threat of unpaid furloughs, salary reductions
    --Fortress mentality, us-against-them
--With the California budget picture being what it is now, CSUCO is a bitterly gloomy and administratively rigid work environment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In tough times, you cannot afford NOT to innovate. CSU faculty could be powerful allies and advocates in partnership with the Chancellor's Office, just as the CO is far more supportive of CSU faculty than most believe. You're both on the same team, and both sides can learn a great deal from the other.

I have been working at California State University

    Pros

Great benefits. Opportunities for training are excellent

    Cons

Very little coordination between departments. No central management of finances, so different groups perform projects independent of the organization as a whole. Tends to lead to much duplication of work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More consistancy.
