I have been working at Cambridge Associates, LLC

Pros

Once you become an Analyst you have a lot more flexibility and leadership opportunities. Similarly, there a tons of opportunities to get involved, but you do need to be proactive and seek them out. The position is realyl what you want to make of it.

Cons

To get to the Analyst role there is a lot of time spent in the Associate and Senior position, which can be quite grueling and thankless at times. Also, promotion is only available when there is an opening, so despite exceeding expectations and ready to move on to the next step, I was stuck in the other roles longer than necessary.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should definitely be more increases in salary. Salary is good for starting, however, it could be a year or two before you see any increase.

    Pros

    - Great deal of responsibility given early in an associate's career
    - Extensive training program upon starting
    - Continued/advanced training sessions
    - Great attention paid toward associates' professional develop and career goals
    - Broad exposure to a variety of types of clients and asset classes, with opportunity to specialize later

    Cons

    - Salary not as generous as management consulting
    - During busy cycles, hours can be long (i.e. 60+ hours/wk)
    - Can only advance to consultant role with an MBA or CFA designation

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Aim to hire a more diverse associate pool
    - Consider increasing associates' salary to become more competitive
    - Reevaluate the work/life balance of the associate group

    Pros

    - great company reputation and interesting field of work
    - straight 8 to 5 work days
    - fun people

    Cons

    - poor pay
    - very little collaboration between investment performance associates and consultants
    - back office work
    - monotonous work that resembles data entry
    - very little effort by management to make staff happy
    - no on going training

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Be creative in making sure your employees are happy - including increasing pay. Promote collaboration between divisions.
