Pros

Sometimes interesting, varied and challenging technical work.
Good technical support, tools, equipment and facilities.
Expertise in many fields.
Reasonable benefits, including a free lunch.

Cons

An opaque bonus scheme that is massively weighted toward top management.
Poor accommodation in terms of office space.
Management largely appear arrogant and uncommunicative to the workforce.
Poor morale.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to connect more with the workforce, encourage them to properly share their concerns, and effectively address them. Failure to do this will result in the company hemorrhaging personnel when the job market picks up.

I have been working at Cambridge Consultants

    Pros

Every day is challenging but ultimately rewarding and exciting, as you get to work with smart, motivated people on interesting projects. Even the management are very good, and it's traditional to knock them in reviews.

    Cons

It takes a while to get used to the pace and parallelism of work. Some people stall and aren't re-motivated or moved on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue as is in your professional running of the company, in being accessible and leading by example. Remember to focus on people as well as metrics, but that goes of any organisation.

I worked at Cambridge Consultants full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of variety in Projects, working with a group of very smart people - you learn a lot, and you 'up your game' by mixing with very experienced peers.
The team has energy, and a great collaborative culture.
Metrics are very clear, and there is in effect a self-selection by results, so that you are always working with very experienced and driven individuals.

    Cons

As is the nature of consultancy, sometimes there is a fighting over the 'percentage of the pie' i.e. who gets what percentage of the client contract price, rather than focus on growing the pie.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Miller Heiman Sales Methodology is a very useful tool, but sometimes the focus on mechanics of the sales pipeline process gets bogged down - don't use this for settling scores or pointing out other's weaknesses, but to really collaborate to increase the effectiveness of prospecting.
