I worked at Canada Ministry of Transportation as an intern (less than a year)

Pros

relaxed, great people, good culture, it was a positive experience working there. Learned quite a bit as an intern there. Comfortable place to work in

Cons

hard to advance, okay salary. Sometimes you are left without work to do. The salary is based on a chart and although it is great if you are fresh out of university, you might want a bit more after a while

I worked at Canada Ministry of Transportation

    Pros

Interesting to see Policy in Action, and some interesting poeople. It's weird to be in that situation though as an intern

    Cons

Definitely not the best experience, they don't give you any opprortunities for really learning, and if you go in with "dreams," as it were, you'll get a chance to see a lot of people who lost theirs long ago.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There were some great managers, but they just feel caught in a system, as it were. Work with them and you can get some good experiences though.

I have been working at Canada Ministry of Transportation

    Pros

Good work environment, mostly consultant management as most engineering work outsourced to third party consultants.

Good project management skills developed and professional service acquisition

    Cons

Not much engineering work as most work outsourced to third party consultants. Extensive contact with media and public most of whom are concerned about your latest project. Job can get quite political at times with involvement of MPP's and provincial government communications/ issues management staff

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

trust your staff to make the correct decisions
