It was okay as upper management would try to help you, everything else is up to you.

I worked at Canadian Tire part-time for more than a year

Pros

Autonomy, social interaction, confidence building, experience stressful environments due to social pressures. The workplace environment is dependant on your coworkers, before I left i noticed they moved those that created a toxic work environment into positions where they would not be in contact with customers, meaning management were looking after its employees and customer's well being

Cons

Disincentive when company's logistics does not help with your current job. Lack of evaluation of product knowledge is apparent, as managers will not test you. The product knowledge tests done on the computer is not learned, but only done to receive the bonus.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on making your logistics better if you plan to be a good retail store, as it causes you to lose much profits.

I worked at Canadian Tire full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

-flexible scheduling (although I suppose this would depend on the individual store manager)
-If you stay with the company for 10 years you may just get promoted to manager and get $1.50/hour over minimum wage! oh wait, this is probably a con....

    Cons

-After many years, I was still getting minimum wage because instead of giving raises at certain intervals as stated in the employment contract, raises were given just before minimum wage increases.
-Unstable scheduling which sometimes changes multiple times per day
-Management's "my way or the highway" attitude
-Many violations of health and safety laws
-Management unclear on local labor laws
-Unstable hours (never 40 hours per week)
-Unsafe conditions (example, filling car batteries with a siphon hose)
-My 1st day of training was the manager saying "those are customers, go nuts" then walking away
-Worst example of poisoned work environment that I have ever come across
-Scheduling is often changed during your day off without being told so you now have to be in at 8:00 AM instead of noon, but you aren't told, or better yet giving employees shifts when they weren't scheduled to work.
-You will never get 2 days in a row off (if you do, refer to above point)
-In more than 5 years I MAY have had 2 weekends off
-Employees regularly being told to stay later/leave earlier due to poorly made schedules

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Step down and let people manage the business who know how and have proper training
