I worked at Canadian Tire full-time (more than 8 years)

Pros

Family values. Good location. Benefits are good. Staff up to senior management are great. A lot of dedicated people that are knowledgeable and have worked there for years.

Cons

Limited career prospects for IT. Making lots of cuts. Not big on training staff or developing projects in-house. Used to be that employees were everything but now it's more about the bottom line.

    I have been working at Canadian Tire part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    -Great people
    -Customer service oriented, get to talk to people if it's busy
    -Learn a lot about the retail industry

    Cons

    -won't allow dead weight time, always have to be doing something
    -salaries arn't the best to start
    -uniforms are tacky

    Pros

    Autonomy, social interaction, confidence building, experience stressful environments due to social pressures. The workplace environment is dependant on your coworkers, before I left i noticed they moved those that created a toxic work environment into positions where they would not be in contact with customers, meaning management were looking after its employees and customer's well being

    Cons

    Disincentive when company's logistics does not help with your current job. Lack of evaluation of product knowledge is apparent, as managers will not test you. The product knowledge tests done on the computer is not learned, but only done to receive the bonus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Focus on making your logistics better if you plan to be a good retail store, as it causes you to lose much profits.
