I have been working at Canadian Tire full-time

Pros

- Work Life Balance was decent
- Management support for personal development.

Cons

- Culture was very limiting to move project fast and efficient.
- Too many meetings that were a waste of time - due to everyone wanting consensus on small decisions.
- Too much politics among employees who have been there long, not quick to adapt to change.
- New hires from fast paced environments get backlash and receive a difficult time from existing employees.
- Not an Agile project environment and projects take too long to implement.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to make the culture shift to Agile , Adaptive and Entrepreneur spirit if CanTire is to stay competitive in the market place. Support change and ideas from new employees. Stephen Wetmore coming from a Telecom background, understands fast to market and staying competitive however, it seems this process is taking long and there to be more mid- senior leadership with the entrepreneur mind set and willing to embrace change.

I have been working at Canadian Tire full-time

    Pros

Interesting work; dynamic brand; lots of excitement around future of company; feels good to think you can make a difference to the staying power of such an iconic Canadian brand. I would recommend this place to a friend as long as they had an understanding of what they were in for. It is good experience to have on your resume in the end.

    Cons

Very bureaucratic; if you want to stay in the same field it's difficult to move up the ranks; pay is nothing to write home about.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of bureaucracy; fix antiquated internal processes; employees have great ideas but the obstacles to making them happen are many!

I have been working at Canadian Tire part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    - paid training (up to a certain amount of online courses)
    - supportive great supervisors/management
    - recognition of employees in newsletters

    Cons

    - if you're in a specialized department like hardware, it really helps to have DIY knowledge, online courses can only do so much
    - AS400 program can be a pain to use sometimes as search queries may not find what you want
    - Online website can also be a pain to use as it may be hard to find what the customer is looking for , may be better off with Google search

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
