Canadian Tire still feels a small company, despite it's size There are plenty of opportunities for movement within the organization to keep employees motivated and developing. It's very much a family type environment with a significant number of longer term employees. The pay and benefits are competitive with other Retailers and the stock option provides a self managed retirement plan.

Cons

The culture is very heavily relationship based which bodes well in terms of diginity and respect towards one another but also promotes a consensus management style that is often slow to react or make quick decisions. Career advancement can be painful at times as it often hinges more on managing relationships than on producing meaningful results.

Advice to Senior Management

Accelerate the focus on the structural review! Clear accountabilities will significantly improve decision making and allow all levels of the organization to become more productive!
