Canon USA Employee Review
Canon USA – “Amazing company, great potential, expat program killing the American market”
2 of 2 people found this helpfulPros
Multi Cultural
Great Benefits
Great products
Cons
Japanese owned, managed and thus the Japanese are privileged and lack accountability
Relationships are more important then good work
No clear direction from executive management
Very poor communication as most expats do not speak English well enough to communicate in a competitive American market.
Does not keep up to date with American business practices - typically lags 2 - 4 years
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on strong local talent that can provide longevity, local cultural proven business practices and can be held accountable in implementing strategic initiatives. Canon and NY in general has some of the brightest talent in the country but is typically disregarded. I find there is too much of the "don't break" mentality or "all expat club" which does not provide an environment for long term growth.

by Former Canon Business Solutions Employee:
At Canon Business Solitions, there are no Japanese visible anywhere; even the current President, Todd Pike, assumed the job from a Japanese expat in January 2009. This seems to be the norm with Japanese-owned copier companies, leaving sales and service in the hands of Americans.. However, as mentioned above, the "relationship" factor weighs heavily.
CUSA missed out on purchasing IKON, when they had a chance to do so. There have been many personnel changes recently in CBS, due to consolidation of the East, West and Central divisions, many demotions. Pay tends to be on the low-end, as a result, turnover is higher than average.
