I worked at Canon USA as a contractor for less than a year

Pros

People - You'll meet great co-workers ( varies by department)
Stability - (pro) People usually stay long term. Good place if you like stability.
Work Security - based on interacting with many employees, it takes a lot of effort to get fired (part of Japanese culture), unless they really don't like you.

Cons

Company communication
Stability - (con) hard to move up because people stay within their roles for a long time
Slow innovation
Conservative about money - ie: paying for your own coffee; meals are not subsidized

My advice:
Japanese Work Culture - High execs are majority Japanese. Research and learn about the culture if your manager is Japanese or you will be dealing with executives.

    I worked at Canon USA for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Canon has always been known for innovative products and that trend continues to this day. For the most part, the people are great to work with and most of them stay for many years even thought the pay is not very high.

    Cons

    Management has lost touch with what has made Canon great over the years...the PEOPLE! Without great people, Canon is destined to fall short of its goals. Managers tend to micro manage sales people while cutting back on support and resources. This is a recipe for failure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Decide what kind of organization you want to become and make the changes needed to accomplish it. Give sales the resources needed to succeed.
