Pros

Good colleagues, good customers. Real effort to position strategically and forward-thinking from the top management. Interest for technology in the TS branch, with the added benefit of a Consulting branch bringing an interesting perspective (yes they are snobs but in practice it works well).
Most of the managers are OK, not (too) political, quite sincere and helpful.
You can progress at Capgemini without falling in the "up-or-out" trap of some other big consultancies.
The company size allows access to a variety of resources, positions, technologies, but you have to get there on your own.

Cons

Short-termism. Puzzling management reorganisations and choices of leadership.
Some cases of very cynical managers.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Demand honesty from your managers; open channel for employees to report when they feel tramped on.

Current Employee - Software Engineer in Woking, England (UK)

    Pros

Very friendly culture and surrounded by lots of capable people. Chance to contribute if you are willing and able. Project Managers/Line Management good at being flexible in terms of hours as long as you deliver.

    Cons

Promotions and appraisals process is opaque. Difficult to understand why some decisions made. Visibility within company and with peers is very important to allow promotion; i.e. just delivering at a very high level on your project work is not enough. The balance here is not quite right between core delivery and community contribution.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sort out the transparancy of the promotion and appraisals process and be more honest on salary.

    Pros

Decent health Benefits, but nothing to write home about. Great amount of vacation when they let you take it. Bonus structure decent.

    Cons

Its a sweatshop. Focus is on sales only and if you arent involved in sales your review will suck. No support from leadership on to many subjects to list. Zero opportunity for training or professional growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in your people. Build a capable delivery organization to support your sales organization. Determine how you want to go to market and then enable your delivery organization.
