I have been working at Capital Group

Pros

The benefits package is heads and tails above most other industries. The MRP, although limited in investment options, is 15 percent of eligible compensation without the associate making any contribution.

Cons

Senior management loves to create sub-committees that discuss over and over again a variety of opportunities and challenges. The company is slow to make decisions and implementation is not a strong suit. Information is not disseminated in a timely manner to other team members.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Considering the low morale created from the previous layoffs, management may want to consider being more open about ongoing discussions for changes or enhancements.

    Pros

Great pay - this place defines golden handcuffs!
Low stress environment - associates can have a great work-life balance
Probably a great place to go and retire

    Cons

Claims to be a collaborative culture - which makes it impossible for anything to get done, to the point of being dysfunctional. Everybody has a voice in everything - there is no agreed way to stop discussing things in endless meetings - but when decisions are made, there is no transparency to how they were arrived at.
Does not have a clearly defined organization structure - and that only leads to confusion at all levels as to who is responsible for what.
"Culture" is a big word here - anybody thinking of going to work here should think twice about whether they will be able to fit in to this culture - and go in with their eyes open!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

First - draw up a clear org chart - everything good will come from that!
Next - set clear objectives and goals for each function, that are time-bound and measurable - work should be measured by more than just how many meetings have been held on the subject.

    Pros

Great salary and benefits - bar none!
    Decent work/life balance
    Some great people
    Decent communication

    Cons

Leadership has lost the long term view the company was founded on
Jobs are narrow. If you are a senior level manager coming from somewhere else, you will lose some of your skill set. CG tends to structure jobs with narrow responsibilities that run deep but are less broad.
Due to low turnover - advancement opportunities are limited for most

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Conduct 360 feedback reviews for leadership - a lot of leaders "manage up" very well - but are not strong leaders down the chain...The incentives can keep senior managers complacent in their performance..
