I have been working at Capital One

    Pros

Very smart people, Good locations to live (Richmond/McLean), Strong balance sheet (very little mortgage exposure from the crisis)

    Cons

Employees work long hours for below average compensation especially for specialized finance/technical roles (one or the other probably needs to go). Senior/Mid-level management have very little traditional banking experience (and a tendency to try to reinvent the wheel)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fix the compensation issue if you want to be able to retain or attract high caliber, experienced capital markets/banking talent. Recognize that sometimes you need experienced hires rather than trying to plug in 'smart' rising stars into businesses they have no experience with

    Doesn't Recommend
    No opinion of CEO
