I have been working at Capitol Region Education Council full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay and benefits; great colleagues; interesting and diverse students; forward - thinking organization that strives to lead the state in education and cooperate with participating school districts; many employee growth opportunities (see related con below).

    Cons

Seems like 100 new "initiatives" are "rolled out" every year and teachers and school admin must implement them "ready or not." High turnover in central office and in leadership positions at schools; too much testing; too much emphasis on data; I fear that current initiative to standardize practices across the district will turn a great organization into an Orwellian one. (See reviews for Achievement First & Harlem Success for more on that.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stick up for your teachers and students by being brave about public education instead of adopting charter school philosophies.
