started out good.....

Administrative Assistant (Current Employee) San Diego, CA

Prosusually good atmosphere, good pay/benefits, good culture is in place, very good about lunch breaks.

Consinconsistent hours, too much training, micro managing, the culture is not lived up to, horrible scheduling, they get mad if its your day off and they need you to come in, not all managers are qualified. Loved the store when it first opened, now all I get is what I do wrong and if it's small it's the end of the world. the business office is full of dramaaaaaaaaaa!

Advice to Senior Managementlose your egos!!! admit when you make a mistake.

Carmax is the only professional car dealer that I know in existance

Salesperson (Current Employee) Las Vegas, NV

I have been working at CarMax full-time for more than a year

Pros: Carmax is a corporation and run like one. You get day off and vacation days. You don't have to fight for your pay… Cons: Too much training sometimes. In the name of training there is a very oppressive culture of people "managers" looking for what you're doing wrong… Advice to Senior Management: Less following policy and procedures and more doing what makes… Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend More

Great pay and benefits cannot overcome the lack of consistent training. Management is NOT stable.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Louisville, KY

I worked at CarMax full-time for more than 3 years

Pros: Other department staff is usually nice. Good pay and benefits if you get… Cons: Poor follow up on training by some mentors. Unclear expectations overall when management changes. Race and sex play a huge part in… Advice to Senior Management: Don't let race/sex influence how you administer disciplinary action. Have regional staff follow up on those in training rather than waiting until the last… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend More
