I have been working at CarMax full-time

Pros

In sales you are truly in control of your paycheck if you work hard and smart you can earn a decent living. Most of the people you work with are truly good people.

Cons

Management micro manages and you are not given a true definition of where to go in terms of growth. Even after you have shown success in your current position it is strictly politics. You should be compensated more on the sales side we have only received one pay increase in 20 years.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit micro managing so much keep an eye on your performers and help out when needed. Also do a better job of identifying growth candidates you are setting the company up for failure when you are losing strong management candidates.

    I worked at CarMax

    Pros

    A flexible work schedule and lots of training to help you make a living selling cars and other accessories. Laid back work environment. Good opportunity to meet and serve customers from all walks of life.

    Cons

    Pay was a little disappointing for the amount of work and performance required to keep one's job. Training was rather overwhelming and too experimental. A revolving door and a high turnoverrate of very good employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    You have a good company with a great brand name. Work on retaining you best hands by paying them more. Some of the training is not necessary to do the job. Too many salespeople are chasing the same pie... the company could do with less.

    Good system. No haggle policy makes it easy to sell.

    Cons

    Managers need to be better trained or more experienced. Compensation should be better.

    Don't over flood the sales floor, just manage better.
