Pros

1)Benefits
2) Paid Vacation
3)Personal day
4)sick pay
5 )Great team enviornment

Cons

Long hours, ok pay but low as far is industry is concerned fort a Service Writer. Alot of policies that arent strictly enforced but if you break one, bye bye. Depending on managment, they are very flexiable with attendance.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have real proof of a violation before you just chain fire people.

    I worked at CarMax

    Pros

Its great you get to buy wholesale cars on the cheap. They offer decent medical benefits. Don't need to be very bright to work there. So that's a plus.

    Cons

Upper Management has a complex. When you buy those wholesale cars, you MUST pay Carmax a profit of at least $1000 . Carmax touts the Best 100 places to work, but it was like hell on earth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try practicing what you preach in "teamwork". Relax the "efficiency" guidelines. Stop trying to McDonaldize every process. Its NOT Toyota. Not even close.

I have been working at CarMax

    Pros

Carmax is a good place to work for part time sales people who either live at home or have a real job.

    Cons

It is very depressing that Carmax raises that salary of its Ceo each year but at the same time refuses to to increase the sales comission, which stayed the same since 1993, Carmax changed the bonuses for sales people so they pay out less than they did in 1993. In reality every sales consultang got a hidden paycut. it is very annoying that the quality of the cars decreased and the main focus of the company is to teach sales consultants to sell through the flaws. Manager spent more time on training and development than on doing their job which should be helping sales people to help sell cars. the business office os more concerned about hteir coorporate numbers than to help sales people with solving problems. Carmax turned into a company over the last few years that focuses more on numbers and statistics than on business of selling cars.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop focusing on numbers and statistics. Start to lead by example because just collecting a paycheck just for showing up does not earn anybody any respect. Start promoting from within the company instead of hiring outside people. Managers need to learn to make decisions instead of partnering up with other Managers or just saying no so nobody is ever responsible for any mistakes. Make a decision and start learning to stand up for it, that's what Managers should be paid for.
