I worked at CarboMedics

Pros – CarboMedics was in business to help people with valvular heart damage. It's rewarding to know that your work is saving lives, if even in a small way. It was a small, "family-type" organization that at one time was very supportive of employees and recognized excellence. It was diverse before diversity became cool.

Cons – It was a one-product company, resulting in limited growth. It was also primed for takeover by a competitor because of that, among other reasons. It had a good ol' boy network that was virtually unpenetrable. It was also handcuffed by the mistakes of the past which lingered like a malaise over certain departments.

Advice to Senior Management – It's too late now, but I'm sure there were alternate ways to salvage this company besides offering it up as a bargain to a competitor.
