I have been working at Cargill full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Guaranteed 36 hours of work per week, Good insurance, are able to cover domestic partners on the insurance, have health,dental, and eye insurance

Cons

Sometimes have to start two hours early on Monday's, some departments are only guaranteed 24 hours, insurance deductibles are outrageous, if you do not have Cargill insurance, you can not participate in their well-being check ups, some departments work ten hours frequently and do not get overtime until they have worked forty hours, starting in the fall until after New Years Eve, they work every Saturday

    Pros

    -Benefits package
    -"Minnesota nice" environment
    -"Lifers" make the workplace feel familiar
    -Beautiful campuses
    -Perks like the wellness program, gym, convenient services at headquarters
    -Emphasis on development (tuition reimbursement, thorough development planning, etc.)
    -Promotes from within

    Cons

    -Salaries under market.
    -Conservative culture creates noninclusive environments.
    -Lacks forward thinking from a market, internal policies, and culture standpoint
    -Old boys club mentality
    -A lot of politicking
    -Businesses are silo'ed and independent.
    -Lack of transparency

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Management needs to be more aware of the increasingly aging workforce, and realize that unless it adapts its culture and internal workplace it will completely miss a talent pool of younger workers that demand more supportive and welcoming environments, competitive salaries, worklife balance, and forward thinking business practices.
