    I worked at Cargill

    Pros

Cargill was very supportive of their employees. My boss was great as was his boss and so on. The company has a great vibe and I never know anyone there that had any interpersonal conflicts.

    Cons

Cargill is mostly involved with commodities so if that does not float your boat then you may wish to keep looking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have created a great company culture with lots of satified employees and customers. My one recommendation is that it can be hard to find highly skilled R&D people in Iowa. You may wish to consider bringing all of your R&D into Wayzata rather than keeping them at the plant.

I worked at Cargill full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Has a ton of resources, does not overreact to small upsets as is fitting for a private company. Has a ton of smart people and comfy offices, and great information resources. Will generally provide you with space to breathe. Has a big name, plush insurance benefits and a unique stock sharing plan. You'll probably get some interesting assignments along the way.

    Cons

You will be a small and expendable fish in a big pond. Large and inflexible corporate infrastructure with many inscrutable management practices. Tends to focus on the patina of engagement rather than developing truly engaging leaders with truly engaging missions and applying its employees to interesting problems and developing resilience. Has a strong "run by corporate HR" flavor you might not expect from a private firm.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit being so awkward and dry about corporate policy implementations. Find ways for everyone to have some significant level of long term commitment to a business or two even if they generally have a functional focus.
