Cargill – “Tread lightly at first and be ready for the backlash when you act.

Oct 5, 2008

2.0

Cargill Senior Project Manager in Minnetonka, MN:   (Past Employee - 2008)

Pros

Job security is good because:
1. Cargill is global and well positioned in basic industries.
2. Talent pool is shallow, and people are unmotivated. If you are a driver, and competent you will shine.
3. The senior management knows what needs to be done to change the organization.

Cons

The compensation is 20% to 30% below market. That would be fine if the intrinsic rewards were in line. The culture is highly political and passive aggressive. Getting things done there is very difficult as the culture is not execution oriented. It is very difficult and risky to have honest, objective discussions about organizational performance.

Advice to Senior Management

Keep doing what you are doing. You have to pay people more to come in from the outside and take the heat or backlash if you are going to succeed.
