I worked at Carrabba's Italian Grill part-time (less than an year)

Pros

Good pay, flexible schedules, nice managers, neat atmosphere, room for advancement, meal compensation benefits, nice coworkers.

Cons

You have to pass a menu test in order to work here (which you have to cheat on in order to pass).

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Perhaps upper management should take the menu test without proper training. It's impossible to pass. Corporate officials are always out-of-touch with reality and you should not need to know every single ingredient in every single thing in order to just he a hostess or host. I'm pretty sure you can have good hosts who simply don't know EVERY single thing off of the ingredients list.

    I worked at Carrabba's Italian Grill part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Fun, energetic atmosphere; attractive career advancement opportunities-even for those without college degrees; diversified company (Bloomin Brands). You have the option of transferring to other restaurants natiowide or other opportunites within the company that involve travel, which can be pretty exciting. Performance bonuses as well. Comfortable uniforms. Good food and wine. Knowlegeable staff, adequate training. Flexible schedule. Managers will usually work around class schedule. Uses Hotschedules.

    Cons

    Inexperienced, and sometimes immature, managers burden staff by making the restaurant susceptible to chaos. (This is not true for all regions and not every manager) Favoritism at times. Fluctuating income; some nights/weeks are super-busy and others are super-slow. There is a ton of pressure on management to maintain numbers which can be stressful. Normal everyday restaurant drama.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Train your staff well so you don't have to micromanage them. This only leads to poor overall performance as you end up neglecting your own responsibilities. LEAD BY EXAMPLE.
