Pros – Some interesting opportunities, you can be part of a very successful company with connections throughout the world. You can gain a good understanding of the market, or your specific job, although many departments don't communicate as well as they should. Some people seems to stay for a very long time and clearly enjoy their jobs, there is a good atmosphere, on the whole the product is fun and reflects the people who work there.
Cons – There needs to be more joined up thinking, and there always felt there was a lack of trust from management. It is a very secretive company, even from within and the corporate atmosphere doesn't help further innovation. If you are ambitious, then they may only be limited scope to move beyond the post you applied for. There is little staff development, in fact I don't remember there being a HR Dept. You don't have anyone neutral to talk to about your role, especially if you're finding it hard to communicate to your managers. Although it likes to think it breaks through the corporate atmosphere, with events and parties, barriers remain between Management and staff, a real us and them climate that means staff with good ideas don't have the opportunity to put them forward.
Advice to Senior Management – Need to find structures that enable staff to develop their roles, and map out a career path, many people leave because there simply aren't the avenues available to them to evolve their careers.
