Caterpillar Engineer in Peoria, IL:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Invests heavily in R&D, has many learning opportunities if you are willing to go the extra mile, flexible work hours, very talented young engineering pool, great benefits and competitive pay, loads of travel opportunities, great place for a starting engineer to get experience in many areas

Cons

culture that stifles new ideas, bureaucratic and red tape, bad mid-level management, worse executive management, history-book example of how not to use 6-sixma, have to deal with midwest weather, has a lot of economic waste, encourages "yes" man culture, management does not like to hear bad news, Open discussions are not encouraged

Advice to Senior Management

Avoid it if you truely want to have a tech-management oriented career. Great company to make money if you are the "yes" man type
