I have been working at Catholic Health Initiatives

Pros

Nice people, I really like working for a faith based community. I believe that the majority of the staff really cares about our patients.

Cons

No opportunity for advancement, but could be more due to the bad economy than anything else.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of dead weight employees. There are a few that really need to be upgraded. Everyone, including management, knows who they are. Everyone sees repeated examples of their poor attitudes and performance, but nothing is done about it.

I have been working at Catholic Health Initiatives

    Pros

RCIO's and affiliate personnel are great to work with
Environment (office, cleanliness, etc) very nice

    Cons

This teams Management was poor and lacked experience/training in personnel management

Code of Conduct transgressions were overlooked depending on who the person was (transgressors were mostly part of the team (peer group) and not management, however, when the incidents were reported the management ignored the reports)

Highly critical with little or no recognition. Personnel gets their back-sides kicked until their nose bleeds.

Borderline psychotic regarding communication, phone calls, etc., even between team members. Management seemed to think if team members collaborated on work assignments that they were "visiting" and not working.

Business ONLY paid for 40 hours (when employee was hourly), but expected many more hours and if the employee only worked the 40 hours they were paid for, the employee was told he/she "was not committed".

Political Hot-seat, could be hard to get things done if you were not liked. If you work here be nice to everyone and take your punches quietly; then get out and go somewhere else when something opens up for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This environment is a "use 'em and burn 'em". If you want more then 40 hours, pay for the hours, or give people time off in instead of pay.

Feedback is critical. Please take training on how to provide employee feedback. When hourly employees work overtime without pay make sure to recognize them for their efforts and don't take them for granted as if their extra service is your God given right.

Get some HR training before CHI is sued. I love the people there and would hate to see them get hurt because management is ignorant or arrogant.

I worked at Catholic Health Initiatives

    Pros

A faith based atmosphere where employees are treated fairly.
There is a caring attitude among the employees. No real ego trips.
Low stress level. Not a "sweat shop" type atmosphere. You enjoy coming to work everyday.
    .

    Cons

Health benefits could be better. Instead of a copay you have to pay a percentage of the total cost of care.
Retirement benefits could be better. It takes five years to become vested.
Not great for career advancement. Very little opportunity to grow outside of your specific job assignments.

    No cafeteria on site.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consolidate all the employees into one building.
