Pros

Money. The IT department pays well. Also, there was plenty of time to take off early or come in late. Schedules are very flexible. Some units seem to be very friendly and laid-back, while others are much more uptight. Anyone very close to the executive leadership should be prepared to play politics and maneuver to make things happen.

Cons

There is a lot of secrecy and politics. Also, there is a siloing problem, where the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Because of this, much work is done twice or three times. Also, there is a lot of waste spent on consultants to do what employees have the capability to do.

Advice to Senior Management

Spend more time planning and less time putting out fires. Also, if you empower and equip your people, there will be less fires to put out.
