Think Very Highly of Themselves

Former Employee - Sales Associate
Former Employee - Sales Associate

I worked at Cato Fashions part-time (less than a year)

Pros

Easy work; just helping customers and putting out stock
The other employees were nice and easy to work with
Easy to get hired for a summer job because they were pretty desperate for associates

Cons

Boring; there are rarely any customers so most of the job is just standing around
Corporate is out of touch with what customers really want and what working in this store is actually like

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find out from hourly workers what customers tell them they actually want and try to keep expectations realistic

I have been working at Cato Fashions full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

20 percent of merchandise, company matches 100% 401k, after so many hrs the company gives you stock

    Cons

No work life balance, always pushing for more with no incentives, RVP, and TVP come around every now and then and act like the can run your store, low pay, high turnover, Only one weekend off a month not including Friday

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer incentives, not everyone is replaceable, maybe is the DM and not the Store Manger

I worked at Cato Fashions full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    The pay was good.That's it.

    Cons

Full of back stabbing, lazy upper management vying for the CEO's favor-at anything and anyone's cost. The most useless admin staff I have ever seen just collecting a check and gossiping. You can expect to see the entire first floor dressed like hookers in the companies clothing line and 5-6 inch heels-Yuck!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the entire counter productive upper management team. Read Malcolm Gladwell's book "Blink", the chapter about Warren Harding and catch a freaking clue! He's there-reincarnated!
