I have been working at Cavium Networks full-time (less than an year)

Pros

Great team members - many are from the Alpha design team from DEC. Extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
Very open to new ideas and never hesitate to try.
Everyone is interested in getting things done and not trying to pass the blame when things go wrong.

Cons

Grade designation structure could be better.
401k matching needs to improve.
Only 10 vacation days (which is a big minus).

Advice to ManagementAdvice

You cant find people unless you do something about vacations.

    The Best and Worst Job

I have been working at Cavium Networks

    Pros

Pays really well. Near perfect autonomy. Minimal corporate BS. In fact, no non-technical management that I've run across. Low expectations. Solid, steady growth (excluding the last two quarters, but I think we'll be back to growth next quarter). The Marlborough office employs a good share of geniuses.

    Cons

The best of our growth is probably done. The flip side to only technical management (which is a plus on balance) is that your boss may not be as good at bossing as he used to be at engineering. This is the Peter Principle in action. I haven't been promoted nor has anyone above me or next to me. There has never been a re-org. It seems the power structure is set in stone. IMHO some of the recent acquisitions are nutty. Parties are terrible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have a solid company. Focus on core products and stop buying random things. Let people change hats once in a while so they can feel like they're on a career path. Spend a little more on team building. Your parties are terrible.

I have been working at Cavium Networks

    Pros

Flexible work hours, can work from home or take time to run errands etc.
You are able to make a difference and see it affect products from the start. Interesting and challenging work.
    Coworkers are friendly and helpful.
    Pizza for lunch every Wed.

    Cons

Health benefits are o.k but not great. 401k matching could be better. A lot of pressure to make deadlines.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is very helpful and understanding with regards to family issues and other errands or emergencies that come up. A better structure for job titles etc would be nice.
